BCS Branding & Web Design

Background

At the beginning of sophomore year in college, I was approached by the head of a consulting organization, Berkeley Corporate Solutions (BCS), to redesign their client facing channels. This included coming up with new branding and laying out a new website.

1. Branding

Problem

Berkeley Corporate Solutions (BCS) was one of many on-campus consulting organizations at Berkeley. When they reached out to me, the organization didn't really have branding in mind - logos and fonts were inconsistent from place to place and there was no online presence. This significantly limited the organization's ability to reach new clients. Facing competition from multiple newly established, similar consulting teams, BCS decided that they needed to create a more credible and memorable brand image as they pitch work to prospective clients.

Action

The branding process began with logo design. My first idea is a simplistic arrow image that highlights the following three key capabilities of the consulting organization.

The BCS team later expressed that their affiliation with UC Berkeley is a great asset to capitalize on when pitching work and they wanted to reflect that school affiliation in their branding. To hone in on the Berkeley image, we turned to the iconic Campanile bell tower. For the final version of the logo that was eventually chosen, I simplified the image while maintaining its iconic features and reduced the building to a single-color icon that could be fitted into the logo. The logo had three color lockups: black, white (for dark backgrounds), and teal (which is BCS' brand color).

The logo deliverable was accompanied by a corresponding set of stationery design that included letter paper and envelope, pen, business cards, and pitch book cover.

2. Web Design

I threw together a very concise website that showcased the most important pieces of information that would help BCS gain credibility with new prospective clients. The site contained:

  1. Brief information about the organization
  2. Types of consulting
  3. Past clients
  4. Client testimonials
  5. Team accomplishments

The site is now live at http://www.berkeleycorporatesolutions.org/. See below for some custom illustrations that I made for the site.
